If I can make it there
I’ll make it anywhere
It’s up to you

New York…..

I want to wake up in a city
That never sleeps
And find I’m a number one
Top of the list

New York means business and there’s nothing subtle about it. It requires an Empire State of mind. There are multiple opportunities across various sectors ready to be harvested. Believe the hype: New York City is home to more fast-growing companies than any other city in America and that’s why we focus a lot of our outplacement there. It’s the most commercially driven metropolis and, in the eyes of many, the most attractive urban centre in the country.

The Big Apple is a great place to move forward in your career. Almost every industry is represented here. The financial, high technology, real estate, insurance and health care industries form the heart of New York’s economy and are perfect for a career change and is scattered with hundreds of headhunters.

The city is also the most important center for mass media, journalism and publishing in the United States, and is a prominent arts center in the USA. As the home of the United Nations Headquarters, it is an important hub for international affairs and is widely esteemed to be the cultural capital of the world

But it’s not only about work. New York’s museums, landmarks and parks have become well known around the world including Times Square, the Broadway theater district, Wall Street, Chinatown, the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings, Statue of Liberty, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Bronx Zoo.

If you’re hungry for a new senior executive role here’s advice from New Yorkers:

Your resume needs to communicate your vision and value. Show that you know the answer to the three big questions—who you are, what you have to offer and where you want to go.

“Sharpen your elbows, because moving up in an organization or getting a top job elsewhere takes more than just being smart and collaborative. Sometimes you will need to figure out the politics to promote your own agenda and to beat out the competition.” —Roy Cohen, author of The Wall Street Professional’s Survival Guide, based in New York City

The New York Post recently published an article describing some useful sectors to for those in career transition consider which are booming right now – fintech and adtech, leisure, software development, healthcare and business services, plus it also said that management level was also healthy in these sectors so senior level executives would do well to look into these markets.

Once you’re there do mingle. New Yorkers are infamous for grabbing drinks after work with friends, coworkers or other social or professional groups. If you want to try this fun and effective route, some popular places where professionals tend to hang out include Mad Dog & Beans, Red Rooster and Del Frisco’s. If you attend a happy hour, there’s a good chance you’ll meet new people to exchange contact information with and build your network.

New Yorkers don’t spend all their time in the office. They have diverse interests and are very active. They run, cycle, or play basketball. There are groups and leagues that you can join for these activities. Some of the more popular leagues are Zog Sports, New York Urban Professionals Athletic League, NYC Social and New York Road Runners. It’s an excellent networking opportunity, so don’t overlook these opportunities.
